Chh.Shivaji Night College of Arts and Commerce, Solapur was established on 07/08/1989. There was no other Night College in the whole of Solapur district before. There are 11 talukas in Solapur. Nobody started a Senior Night College.

          We are proud to state that we are pioneers of Night College in Solapur District. Solapur is a city of Mills and Workers. It is known as a Rain Shadow District. It is a Rabbi district, as notified by the Britishers. Most of the students come from the working class community. Most of the students were interested in the advanced studies of History.

          Many students worked during day time but could not attend the regular day colleges. So they were searching for a Night College and our Chh. Shivaji Night College is the best of all Night Colleges in Maharashtra.

          History, being an important subject, the college offers Specialization. We formed the Department of History in 1996. Since the formation of Department of History, the following faculties were teaching History. They are 1) Prof Javale S.S,2) Prof Sonkamble A.V.  Many of our students are enrolled for Optional History at B.A I year level. They continued History as special subject and obtained degrees from the universities.

         The Department of History is a full- fledged department catering the academic quest of students. The Department offers special studies particularly in Indian history and also covers world, regional history, historiography, tourism now most of our department students are working in Government and Private Establishments. 

The Department of History will always remain student centric.  

With this Our Dept. of History aims :-

v To create responsible and awared citizens capable of contributing in nation building.  
v To inculcate the sense of National integrity among the students.
v Specific Objectives: 
v To impart quality education in history as to create awareness and understanding about Indian and World  history.
v To develop research attitude and aptitude among the students.
v To make student sensitive towards conserving historical monuments and antiquities.  
v To prepare students to tackle history as a subject in various union and state level competitive examinations.
