The Night College was needed  for the students those who were working in day time and willing for higher education. Before 1989, such kind of facility was not available in Solapur. Maratha Samaj Seva Mandal realized this need and started Chhatrapati Shivaji Night College of Arts &Commerce ,Solapur  in 1989.                                                              

We are proud to state that we are pioneers of Night College  inSolapur District Solapur is a  city of Mills and Workers . It know as a Rain Shadow District..It is Rabbi district as notified by the Britishers. Most if the students come from the working class community. Most of the students were interested in the advanced studies of Economics.Many students worked during day time but could not attend the regular day colleges So they were searching for a Night College   and our Chh. Shivaji Night College  Night College  in is the best of all Maharashtra. Economics being an important subject the college offered the Specialization. We formedthe Department of Economics in 1991. Since the formation of Department of Economics, the following faculties were teaching Economics.  They are

 1)Prof A.B Mane

2)Prof S.V Magar 

3)Prof V.P Vhanbindage.

 Many of our student enrolled for Optional Economics at B.A /B Com I Year level. They studied Economics as special subject and obtained degrees from the Universities.

The Department of Economics is full –fledged department catering the academic hunger of students. The Department offers special studies in Agriculture, Public Finance Demography, Indian Economy, Banking, Micro and Macro Economics and Co-operation. Now most of our department students are working in Government and Private Establishment 

Though the Department of Economics is working with full capabilities for students there some short comings too. There is no P .G. Department of Economics. There are no E- Resources for department students and teachers We will surely try to overcome these things in coming years  The Department of Economics is always at service of students.

 The Department of Economics envisions achieving high standards of academic performance to provide quality education to students , equip students with knowledge and skills in their chosen stream and to provide opportunities for students to realize their full potential and thus shape them into future leaders to address the emerging global challenges and to deal with economic social and business realities.

 
Mission:

 To Produce highly qualified well rounded and motivated students with a sound knowledge of the subject and its applicability in real word to serve the society and the nation.

1.To ensure that our students have the integrative and critical thinking skills as well as quantitative and qualitative abilities to analyze complex economic social and global problems.
2.To ascertain that our students have the necessary interpersonal communication and leadership skills so that they can function as responsible citizens and effective leaders.
3.To create a collaborative teaching learning and research environment that emphasizes social responsibility ethical decision- making and a global perspective.
4.To create a community to teacher-scholars and students who are actively engaged with each other and the world.
